BUCKSHOT 98: Excitement Blues
by Bitch Album
Buckshot 98’s Excitement Blues is the soundtrack to my wintertime horniness. Bless this EP, a good friend to have along with me on the ride. Gets my blood moving faster. That’s how I want it to be flowing.
“I need to get my blood moving faster//I want to know just what I’m after”
“Just a Gun” rolls and rambles into ecstatic chaos. This is the one I’ve got on repeat right now. It’s got some kind of spell on me. I love a little speeding it up in a song. “I just wanna get fucked//and I’m not afraid to die” resonates. By the time we get there I’m losing my mind.
“Pure Light” is a groove, a theory. These three boys are it. Pure light? I don’t know. Is our narrator reliable? Makes you wonder about a lot of things.
“I’m playing a ram skull rag
On a gut rot jag
I’m a graveyard man
With a band new bag”
I’d trust him.
“Radio Man” oozes desperation and the illusion of apathy. Here we are speeding it up again. That’s the shit! Aidan’s vocals are something special on this track. He’s got emotional range.
All in all a tremendous EP that I really believe in. Check out Excitement Blues.
And now for a few words about the release show —
I had the great privilege of attending the Buckshot98 release party at Hubbard House. Big crowd! I was immediately seduced by the charcuterie and cookies. I lingered there for a long time before the show started. I needed that cheese. Dancing fuel! 10/10 release already.
Then…
Menage Detroit made the house shake right off the bat. These two never disappoint.
My first time seeing The Long Stairs. Groovy and excellent!
Buckshot 98 was electric. The minute they started in on the intro to “Just a Gun” I was getting goosebumps. They’ve got this presence, and it built throughout their set.
I was dancing all night long!
Long live killer house shows like that one.
